Idea for JKArchive - An archive site similar to archive.org for JA related stuff.

Recommended Posts

I'm getting some likes, so I assume people think this is a good idea. The only reason I post here is because I want to make sure this isn't something that's going to get a lot of negative/it's unnecessary reaction before I put in a hosting request to the JKHub admins.

EDIT: Hosting request sent.

Not 100% related but... I think it should be allowed to upload mods you do not own. There are so many good demos, configs and also mods (eg from pcgamemods) that can't be uploaded cause of the guidelines on this page. I think as long as you don't "steal" (by pretending that you created the file) it should be allowed.

Especially for demos it's just stupid. There are really many people who care for demos but so far the only one who uploaded some is me. And that's because the real good demos are from people that do not care about this game anymore and won't upload them.

I understand that it's important to protect copyrights but I think it's sad when some files just get lost. Especially in a community that is as small as ours.

Saying that I actually would like to see a JKArchive but this won't happen with the current guidelines.

Perhaps a policy whereby if proof can be offered that a reasonable attempt to gain consent has been made to the author, and there has been no response, then perhaps we would be able to upload it under the 'JKHub' name. However it would need discussion, mostly with those resonsible for the site itself...mainly Caelum. If he's okay with that then I guess it could be changed. However as he is the site owner and ultimately the founder and the one who would be dealing with any (however unlikely) fallout he'd need to sanction it I think!

Absolutely disagree. Some authors will become very angry (and tend to be very vocal about it) if you upload their work somewhere without their knowledge or consent, even if you give the author full credit, and we should really avoid as much controversy as possible. It could have no impact, but it could just as easily ruin our reputation. This has happened to mod sites in the past.
