How to apply texture normal map


Encritary

Most of DirectX games, like TFU has normal maps of textures, usually with addition details for it. In this tutorial I will tell you how to apply these addition details in Photoshop/GIMP.

For example, you have this Starkiller head texture:

But it seems not so nice as in TFU. This is because normal maps, that JK doesn't support, has some addition details of texture. To apply them on this texture:

1) Open Diffuse map in Photoshop/GIMP

2) Place Normal map as layer on it

3) Change blend mode of this layer to Soft Light and adjust tranparency to 90%

4) If your texture became pinky, then set saturation of Normal map layer to -100% and brigtness to -70%

If you did it right texture must looks like this:
