About This File

Update:

Thank you for your feedback! Please view the change log for a list of updates. As always if you encounter any issues, do let me know!

About the mod:

Please unzip the NewBeginning.zip folder and extract the contents to your Gamedata folder. Once installed, you may use the included "newbeginning.bat" file to load the mod for you. These instructions should apply to a disc and Steam installation (as I've used both!)

This is a single player mod set one year after the original game (Light Side ending.) You will play as a new character over three levels (discounting cinematic maps) and two bonus levels. Two take place in the Jedi Academy and one at one of the many training grounds. I strongly encourage you to explore the first level as there're a fair few secrets and Easter Eggs to be found! It was designed with the original Jedi Outcast level in mind, which means you could end it very, very quickly if you wanted to bypass the fun of exploration and move onto the trial level.

The trial is the same one that was originally released here on JKHub with minor edits. I wanted to place emphasis on the Yavin Temple in order to receive feedback while I work on a brand new trial level and the first mission beyond the Jedi Academy.
If you encounter any bugs- Oh, God. Please, please don't tell me you've encountered any bugs. ;_; My head might implode!

Special thanks to Circa for play testing at various stages of development! Additional thanks to everyone over in this thread for providing so much help (still).

Problems with the .bat?

A Windows 8 tester did seem to be having a problem loading the mod with the .bat provided. They overcame this by creating a shortcut to their jasp.exe. (Right-click, copy, paste shortcut)

Open the shortcut's "properties" and then move to the "shortcut" tab. Then, add the following (after a space) onto the "Target:" field: "+set sv_pure 0 +set fs_game newbeginning"

Example:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy\GameData\jasp.exe" +set sv_pure 0 +set fs_game newbeginning"

I hope this helps!

Sorry to cause you a premature implosion, but I found a pretty serious bug. You can go nearly anywhere climbing on top of the doors, and from there on the walls.

I suggest you to put lovely system/blockplayer brushes to make an impassable invisible "ceiling" above the rooms, or you can use the same shader to smooth off the door ledges to prevent players from going on them.

Sorry for the implosion again

Admittedly, it didn't occur to me that the first thing someone would want to do would be climb out of the level. :P

But noted. I'll add some clips in!

That's also not what I generally do when I play a mod, but I wanted to check out any possible bug, any possible misaligned textures... found nothing. It's a very nice mod, my congratulations. On a side note, you could add in subtitles. Nothing that would spoil the mod, granted.

That was a pretty nice SP mod! Finally something new, that gives a little bit of experience of what would it be, if player chooses the Light Side of Korr and he becomes a Jedi Master lol. I am already looking forward for much more missions on this mod and some new stuff maybe? Also I really loved the idea of training the player's character before he/she is able to reach the lightsaber. Something like in the good SW movies: you must learn and work hard to get your lightsaber, young padawan xD

Very short, but very cool and challenging! Nice but strange to see Rosh older^^ Is it a "one shot" or you thought about a sequel?

There'll be more to it. This was more of a practice round!

Very nicely done! I realy liked the conversations and cutscenes you put together. Will you make more new missions? That would be lovely.

I would like to play this mod but, it keeps saying my NPC Parms(parameters) are to big and it stops reading them after Swoop.pk3. How do I fix this.

Have you tried temporarily removing the Swoop.pk3 from your game directory? If so, did it work after?

I liked it. Very nice design and feels like you're onto something as far as gameplay goes. Always felt that the training sequences in both Jedi Outcast and Academy were too abbreviated.

Very creative use of dialogue sound files that could already be found in the game.

I'll admit to suffering a few stutters at the beginning of the game. After Kyle said "Let's get started." I kind of just stood there staring at them for a moment expecting them to do something or otherwise direct me to the door I was supposed to go to. After waiting long enough to determine that wasn't going to happen I fumbled with the rooms until I got into the first puzzle.

Call me dumb but the first puzzle had me stumped for a bit. I got the whole force sense deal immediately but I had to guess at which symbol was supposed to be used or force pushed since the correct one didn't match the symbol by the door. Though this may have been intentional.

All in all I really enjoyed the little obstacle course and the secret area. Well done on the concept and the design!

Admittedly I was relying heavily on the "New Objectives" flash to get players moving. I kept forgetting whilst making it that the level progression is only obvious to me because I'm the one who designed and put it together! It's something I plan to improve upon with the next level. I was also stuck on what dialogue was available, we'll see what I can do!

Good spot! I popped in game when I read this and placed them side by side like so: http://i.imgur.com/LOoMJ8X.jpg

It then occurred to me that the glowing image isn't properly mirrored on the opposite wall. That's a genuine mistake! In my head they're the same image, which... is true, but at the same time you're right, they are different. I've fixed it in my copy, so it'll go up with any additional bug fixes that anyone else encounters. Thanks for pointing it out!

Not too much of a fight here, but not bad at all. I like the visual likeness of the Yavin architecture. One puzzle was a bit tricky due to jumping, but I would recoomend making them more complicated. =) Waiting for Part 2 now.

After reflexion, as dialogs are game files, it was possible to make German and Spanish versions too...

Damn, this is so obvious! Why did I not thought about it sooner?

Edit: maybe because I don't speak Spanish at all and not sure about German to translate the objectives...

Good mod, but too easy, except a jump in which I would like your character could grab edges. Have you thought about doing tutorials more harders?

Hello!

I downloaded your mod and installed it properly, but it dont want to start. Am I doing something wrong or I am just unlucky with your mod?
